SOLDADERAS: A FASHION AND DANCE FILM
ACT 1: SOLDADERAS
Contemporary dancer Camila Arroyo and fashion designer Sabrina Olivera, collaborate in Soldaderas, a cinematic piece about what it means to be a strong, resilient, warrior woman. In a time where runways had to be reinvented, Arroyo and Olivera replace the runway show and deposit its importance on the screen: a short film is born. Enjoy the dancing, the clothes, enjoy the movement and the colors, enjoy the way in which a moment is braided and braided again into wholeness. Enjoy body, enjoy fabric, enjoy the sound.
We dance to imagine a contemporary Soldadera. We manifest her away from the hyper-masculine and militaristic imaginary that created her, and within a tender choreography within the city in which we exist today. We think of the Soldadera away from the figure of the soldier and within the logic of “soldar” (translated as “to weld”) as an action. We weld new worlds as we move. Melting and rebuilding, braiding and forging. We believe in welding ties that allow us to be together in difference. We trust in the possibilities that open up when we sweat together when we melt and start over, “soldando, trenzando y sabroseando”, over and over, and over again.
